Historical Context
The painting of the battle on bunker hill was painted The purpose was that since this was the first battle that the Americans lost in the Revolution, Trumbull wanted to convey the message to the Americans that knew of the General that even with the loss of a hero, they never give up and unite. Maybe even convince fellow Americans to stand up for the country. This image was drawn right after the end of the American Revolution and around the time the Peace treaty was signed to end the revolution.
